1.
OFFICER'S NIGHTS IN THE GYM
Here's who will be in the gym on what nights of the
week:
Monday: Ben
Tuesday: Bianca
Wednesday: Vanessa
Thursday: Shannon
*FYI: there's been a slight change in hours- since the
boys club is working out until 9 pm every night, Wednesday's
hours are now from 8:30-10:30, not 7:30-10:30
2. COACHES
It's our goal this year to get two coaches for every
workout, ideally one male coach and one female coach.
Unfortunately, there's a bit of a shortage as far as female
coaches go, so we're still looking. As you know, we
currently have 2 coaches from the men's team, Bromley and
Aaron, who have been coaching the club since last semester.
3. ELECTIONS
We have two vacancies in officer positions, namely the
vice president, but the safety officer as well, as these two
officers are not able to continue in their duties and we are
sad to see them go.
On a brighter note, this also brings up the opportunity
for two new students to join the gymnastics club core. If
you're interested in being nominated for a position, let us
know.
4. FUNDRAISING
It's a new year, and that means MORE FUNDRAISING. We're
planning on doing the same events that we did last year,
namely stadium cleanups and gym set-ups. We're also trying
to think of some new fundraising events, such as a gym
slumber party for the Golden Bear Club kids. We hope that
you'll all be able to participate and help out- if you have
any other ideas, let us know!
5. HOME MEETS
We're planning our annual Halloween meet this year for
Saturday, October 30th. It actually might be our big meet of
the year, as we have invited teams from the University of
Texas, UC Davis, UCSB, UCSD as well as representatives from
LA. They will be judged mostly by members and former members
of the men and women's teams at Cal. This is an event we
have every year to kick off our competitive season- don't
worry, it sounds serious, but it's really laid back and
lot's of fun. Costumes are definitely encouraged. Hopefully
everyone in the gym can participate, either by helping to
coordinate the meet and/or competing.
6. SOCIAL
EVENTS
As you all know- or are beginning to find out, we like
to have a good time! Throughout the year we various social
events and get-togethers, usually involving food :), for
birthdays, or just because. You can definitely count on Ben
to round up people for weekend outings to the beach to surf
and soak up some of that California sunshine, and winter
snowboarding trips are definitely a possibility. Hanging out
at each other's apartments and gorging ourselves on food and
watching movies is another one of our favorite past-times.
One event that you can count on that's coming up is our
Welcome Party that we're having, tentatively the weekend of
the 18th of September. This is just to welcome everyone back
from their fabulous summer get-aways and welcome & get to
know new members. Mark the date on your calendars!
7. CLUB PARAPHERNALIA
We have club t-shirts for sale for $15, available in
all sizes. If anyone's interested, just ask any of the
officers, especially Ben. Also in late September we'll be
taking orders for club warm-ups, bags and uniforms, so
definitely consider investing, especially if you plan to
compete (but it's not mandatory:). Bianca will have
the information on all of that later this month, including
prices.
8. GENERAL MEETING
We're planning our general club meeting for Tuesday,
September 21st here at the gym around 8pm. Come out to find
out about events and competition. This is when we'll also be
holding our elections, so definitely come out. Dues are due
the day before, on Monday, $50 for students and $75 for all
others.
9. WAIVERS
Just to let you know, everyone has to fill out waivers
for 04-05 so we can turn them in to the sports club office.
